Marking 70 Years in Platinum

70 years of the Monarch on the British throne and 70 successful years in business – both are quite amazing feats in this day and age.

And ExxonMobil Fawley has helped to help mark the special occasion by sponsoring the purchase of 2500 special Queen’s Platinum Jubilee coins which are being distributed to youngsters attending schools and youth groups within the Parish of Hound.

The project came about after Hound Parish Council approached ExxonMobil Fawley to ask for a financial contribution towards buying the commemorative coins.

With the complex just recently celebrating its 70^th anniversary, the project was a great fit, and a donation of £3500 was given to the Council.

The first of the presentation ceremonies took place at Netley Abbey Junior School last week when 625 of the coins were given out to youngsters in the infant and junior schools by Simon Guillan, chairman of the council, and Angharad Vaughan, Community Affairs Adviser at ExxonMobil Fawley, at a special ceremony.

Coins will also be distributed to many other schools and youth organisations such as Scouts, drama and dance groups around the Hound area.

The donation enabled the coins, which are slightly bigger than a £2 coin, to be purchased, while the Council bought velvet lined display boxes for them to be presented in.

David Nevin, Clerk of Hound Parish Council, said: “When it was the Queen’s Golden Jubilee, ExxonMobil Fawley gave us money to give each child in the parish a commemorative china mug, so we wanted to do something this time round to mark the Platinum Jubilee.

“Every child, from pre-school to school, Scouts and any other organisation which meets in the parish will each receive a coin in a velvet box, and they look really good.

“We have decided that we will try to go along to school assemblies and group meetings to present them to the children whenever possible, and if not, we will give them to the organisations to give out themselves.”

Riccardo Cavallo, ExxonMobil Fawley Plant Manager, added: “This is a really good way for us to not only mark the Queen’s Jubilee, but also to mark 70 years of ExxonMobil Fawley providing jobs and valuable products to the local and national economy.”
