ExxonMobil donated £440,000 to UK communities in 2023

Last year ExxonMobil provided £440,000 in support to the communities living near our operating sites in Fawley and Fife. Our support helped enhance local facilities, foster educational and enabled many schools and charitable organisations to carry out important project.

In Fawley:

19 Fawley link schools received funding for science, technology engineering and maths (STEM) related subjects, and we sponsored events such as the Science Festival at Brockenhurst College to encourage young individuals to explore careers in engineering and science.

We also donated to Holbury Community Sports Association to help it provide changing facilities for local cricket and football teams and our collaboration to build bikes for the Honeypot Children’s Charity resulted in unforgettable experiences for young explorers.

Recognising and celebrating creative talent, we sponsored the Hythe and Dibden Parish Council Arts Festival and helped Fawley Parish Council to buy equipment for its community cinema.

Another organisation we were proud to assist was the Stella Maris Seafarers’ Charity -  providing funding for amenities such as decking, indoor furniture, a television and Wi-Fi provisions.  And we supported Wetwheels Hamble - a fantastic charity which helps people with disabilities enjoy days out on the Solent.

In our efforts to enhance interaction among residents at Ashlett Dale Rest Home, we sponsored a sensory table. This initiative is especially meaningful as it supports individuals with sensory impairment, dementia and physical disabilities, helping to foster a sense of engagement for residents, their families and carers.

And showing our appreciation for veterans, we contributed towards a new veterans’ lounge in Blackfield through The Royal British Legion. We also donated towards the Fawley Armed Forces Day family fun day and information event.

We helped Waterside Foodbank meet the costs of the foodbank for the next two years and cover the cost of volunteers’ fuel.  And a ‘Day of Caring’ saw employees donate their time to help create a new bike compound at New Forest Academy.

Christmas proved a particularly busy time in Fawley too.  We provided funding to Hound Parish Council for their Christmas celebrations; sponsored 3,000 selection boxes for children in the community through the Waterside Christmas Fire Engine; and we gave out 240 Christmas hampers to residents and charities.

In Fife:

In 2023, Fife Ethylene Plant (FEP) provided over £100,000 in support of local schools, charities, and community groups. The funding has been used for everything from scientific equipment and educational books to sporting facilities and lifesaving equipment.

Levenmouth Academy was one of the many local organisations and schools that visited our site, giving them an insight into the work carried out at FEP.  We also worked in partnership with Fife College, offering scholarships to students on health and safety related courses.

As in Fawley, support was given to some of FEP’s Link Schools including Beath High School and St Columbas High School to help with the teaching of STEM subjects.  Mentors from our FEP team were delighted when they helped Queen Anne High School pupils to scoop a gold award in the prestigious Industrial Cadets competition.

Auchtertool Primary School also received a grant to carry out playground improvements and we funded new equipment and materials for outdoor learning in the school garden at Crossgates Primary.

Our donation to Kirkcaldy Netball Club helped them convert tennis courts into a full-sized netball court with disabled access whilst Kingdom Offroad Motorcycle Club is helping keep kids on the right track by offering free come and try sessions to vulnerable youngsters thanks to our support.

Lindsay House care home in Lumphinnans benefited in kind, when a group of FEP employees carried out some gardening work to brighten up the residents’ outlook and St Andrews Court Tenants’ Association was able to purchase an automated lifting chair to help if residents have a fall.

Our donation to Coastwatch West Fife enabled them to purchase a mobile information station vehicle to carry out its vital monitoring and safety role, whilst the Craigencalt Rural Community Trust was able to house a defibrillator in a special heated cabinet.

Dunfermline Amateur Swimming Club and Lochgelly United AFC also received help, as did Cowdenbeath Civic Week, Lochgelly Gala Committee, Lumphinnans Community Council and Central Park Community Trust towards their ongoing work in the local community.  Andy’s Man Club groups in Fife were also given funding to help their important work improving men’s mental health by providing a safe environment in which to get together for a chat.

ExxonMobil remains committed to making meaningful impacts that make a positive difference in the communities where we work.  We are also grateful to everyone who has volunteered their time and expertise and our community  teams for making it all happen!
