Esso fuels flight that brings Ukrainian orphans to Britain

Esso Petroleum UK has donated the fuel used for a special relief flight today between Heathrow and Warsaw. The return flight, chartered by Virgin Atlantic, is bringing 55 orphaned Ukrainian children and six of their legal carers to the safety of the UK.

The evacuation, called ‘Project Light’, has been facilitated by a number of charities including Save a Child, MDA UK, and Dnipro Kids (which was set up by Hibs football fans).

Humanitarian support

We are proud to be able to help facilitate the flight by our strategic customer, Virgin Atlantic, and to support this humanitarian mission and the Ukrainian orphans at this extremely challenging time. I would like to commend the terrific work these charities are doing to assist relief efforts, as well as our Fuels Value Chain (FVC) and many supporting colleagues who responded so positively and promptly when Suzanne Macdonald our Aviation Sales manager was approached for our help on Friday evening.

ExxonMobil supports the people of Ukraine as they seek to defend their freedom and determine their own future as a nation. We are deeply saddened by the loss of innocent lives and we are fully behind the strong international response.

Supporting communities is part of ExxonMobil’s DNA, and the donation we’ve made to help enable this flight underpins our sense of duty to provide assistance where we are able. The humanitarian crisis in Ukraine is unspeakable, and our thoughts are with those affected.
