Production
We are responsible for approximately five per cent of UK oil and gas production.
Several different types of production installation are used to maximise the efficient and cost-effective recovery of oil and gas from our offshore fields. The installation may be a platform, a floating production facility or sub-sea wellheads connected to a central processing facility.
Esso Exploration and Production UK Limited has been producing gas from the North Sea since 1968 and oil since 1976.
The Brent field has been producing oil and gas for some 38 years. The extended life span of these fields is due almost entirely to investment in the development of new technologies.
Ongoing technological advances in reservoir management tools have offered new geological insights and improved reservoir performance. Engineering innovations such as extended reach drilling and horizontal wells allow optimum development.
While ExxonMobil has an interest in around 40 producing oil and gas fields in the North Sea, the Brent field, which is operated by Shell U.K. Exploration and Production, is nearing the end of its operational life. Discover more about the Brent Decommissioning project.
